I’m Ryan Felps. I from Baltimore, Maryland. I’m married with four wonderful children. Both sets of grandparents lived in Baltimore as I grew up. I went to Randallstown High School and did a little bit of college at College Park, MD.
My father changed his last name to Felps and kept the F. That’s why it’s not Phelps. Clever right? Eh, maybe. Either way it adds to a lot of correcting when people try to spell my name when I give it to them. I’ll say, “That’s with an ‘f’ not a ‘ph’.” and they’ll go, “Phelphs? or Pfelfs? or Pelfs?” You get the idea. They just can’t wrap their heads around the concept at first. Even when I spell it out one letter at a time. F as in frank, E as in edward, L as in Larry, P as in Peter, S as in sam. They don’t listen and have in their mind. They are probably thinking, ‘ why is this idiot spelling out Phelps? I don’t have to listen to this garbage. I’ll just wait for him to stop babbling and then spell it how I know it is spelled.’ or something like that.
